Woodstock Court

The neighborhood of Woodstock Court is located west of Dover in Kent County, Delaware. The community is surrounded by towns like Crossgates, Morris Estates, Fairview, and Woodcrest. George Washington Drive cuts through the center of the town along with Forrest Avenue. Some other roads within the area are Independence Boulevard, Saulsbury Road, and Walker Road.

History

The greater area is home to the Maple Dale Golf Club on land rich in history. Initially, the area was known as the Virgin Choice, and it was purchased in 1681 by Jane Bartlett. The original deed even has the signature of William Penn, the land proprietor. In 1708, Owen David purchased the area that became known as the Foxhall Tract. The land remained in the David family until it was sold to the Ridgely family in 1776.

The construction of the golf course began with a three-hole course built by Daniel O. Hastings in 1922. At this point, the area was called the Maple Dale Farm and stretched from Kenton Road to the corner of Route 8. The current 158-acre site was purchased in 1967 and expanded to include:

  • a clubhouse
  • a swimming pool
  • tennis courts

Along Forrest Avenue, the residents can find a vast selection of restaurants and dining options. Some of these include:
